Death and Taxes? Or is it Pneumonia and DMV?

Oh what a day yesterday. I had to go spend the day at the DMV to change my name, address and renew my drivers license. I have had a terrible picture for 9 years since I first got my license, so I actually did my hair and showed up to take a new picture. I sped to make it to the DMV on time, kind of ironic. But when I got there all of the computers were down. So I waited an hour or two before they rebooted and then got in line again. Can I just say that the customer service at these types of places is horrendous? After all the paperwork I finally was in the line to take a picture. The lady says step-up, sign your name, give a thumb print, get behind the line- then became perfectly silent. I stood there and smiled for 6 seconds then stepped forward and asked are you going to take it? Right when I stepped forward and blinked of course she took the picture and the flash went off. I was like what can I retake that? And she said no its fine. 3-4 weeks and you will have your new license. I WAS SO FRUSTRATED! I wanted to strangle the lady. But she was a rough black woman from Oakland and I figured she didn't care a bit if I liked my picture. Especially with a huge line behind me.
Next stop take Kc to the Medical Center. He has been sick for 5 weeks. It started as a cough, then developed into a cold, then into flu symptoms. So finally after 4 painful days of not being able to function or concentrate in school we had to see a doctor. 30 minutes later we were told to take x-rays of his lungs and kidneys for further results, but that he definitely had pneumonia. So special. Poor Kc. And now I am sick too.

Hooray finally we spent our money wisely at the movie theatre! Over Presidents weekend my family and I went to see the movie Jumper, and I felt extremely dissatisfied. We went home and had to watch the ending of We are Marshall which my parents started just to cheer-up. Walking out I honestly felt like I had wasted a few hours of my life. Sorry to all of those that liked Jumper a lot, it just wasn't for me. Even though Hayden Christensen shares my name, we are not buddies after this movie. But tonight Kc and I went to see Be Kind Rewind. I give it a 10! Usually I do not laugh out-loud in movies- but gosh darnit Jack Black, you made me this time. Kc and I thought it was really creative and who knows maybe a post in the future will have Kc and I acting out some movie like, So I Married an Axe Murder. (mostly because it was filmed in SF)

$17.76 on Presidents Day!

For Presidents Day Anne, Mike, Kc and I drove down to my parent's house to hangout with my sister Emily and her family who didn't come for Christmas. We had a lot of fun, but missed Josie and the Brown family.

We took over the entire La Fogata restaurant. We had almost every seat in the small restaurant, but the other customers were staring at us as my Dad yelled from one end of the table to the other.

BYU Volleyball game- GO COUGS! Still undefeated.

We were able to cheer on Trent Hans Sorensen soon to be a Dad.

On the drive home which happened to be Monday we made a pitstop at McDonalds, we ordered our food and did jumping jacks while waiting to pull up to the window to pay. Then added 3 chocolate chip cookies cause luckily it wasn't too late and our new total came out to be 1776! Happy Presidents Day to all.

Field Trip

I am not sure if you have ever looked for a job before...for longer than 3 months. If not congratulations, but if so you will know it does not feel like a vacation. You start to feel a little down. But Last Thursday Anne and I decided to actually go out and see the sites. Honestly most days I only ran errands, cleaned, looked for jobs and then took care of Kc. So when Anne proposed a field trip day I was all for it. Monica and I drove into the city and picked anne up from a successful job interview and then started our day.

1. We got free I heart SF shirts from the kind people at Virgin Airways! Nice Valentines Shirt.
2. We navigated our way to the Full house street...

3. Drove through Golden Gate Park and saw roaming bison and this amazing windmill that reminds me of 11th grade spanish class and Don Quixote.

4. Which became a "brady bunch" photo shoot in the weird holes in the windmill.

5. Then a little further we drove around Ocean Beach and walked down to the Bath Basin.

Very cool, I am glad it is still there.

6. Took more pics of the bridge because my earlier ones were dark and gloomy.


7. Stopped by the under construction Palace of Fine Arts.

8. Saw a very true sign

9. Remembered that cable cars are cute

10. And ate at Boudins where the french bread and bread bowls are flown around in metal baskets on a train track.

Day away from searching for a job...PRICELESS

Two Saturdays ago we went to a Cal vs. Oregon Basketball game with Brad & Monica Packer, and Steve & Marissa Smith and found this gem of a restaurant afterward. It was called Tuk Tuk Thai Cafe. I liked the authentic Tuk Tuk in the middle of the dining area and the food was pretty good too.

What a rich legacy

Thanks to Scott Eggertson (my good friend from BYU that lives here in Alameda) I now know of the rich heritage that lies beneath my year and a half new name... Molly Oliver. I found this quote from a Nova Scotia band, mollyoliver

"This reunion of the band was mainly for fun and to make some money and play some of their favorite cover tunes. One day when the band was practicing the band had to decide on a name. Many names were thrown around at the time says Bruce. Laughable names like Everyday Tree, Pepper People and some others that don't come to mind. Tim Garagan came up with the name Molly Oliver, we all agreed that it was a neat name and decided to use it. It actually was the name of two dogs that lived around Duncan's Cove at the time. The band informed booking agent Skip Yorke about the name and he did some research with friend George Brothers and came back with "The Legend Of Molly Oliver" story. So that folks is the honest story of how the band got it's name, where the legend came from and how it began."

Not only am I impressed that my name came from rough drafts roots such as Everyday Tree, and Pepper People- then jumped to Molly Oliver for the band... But the fact that for the second time in my life my name has come from the name of a DOG.
How ironic is it that when I was born my parents lost there former dog named Mollie and they wanted to name there 4th daughter after a lost puppy. And then almost 25 years later a band named themselves my exact name from 2 dogs local to a Nova Scotian cove nearby.
Molly Oliver the band consequently formed in 1974 and broke up in 1983, the year I was born! And then reunited in 1999. I will hear this band play before they break-up again.
